How we protect the environment by educating
All of our courses have an environmental element built into
them. We emphasise respect for the environment by insisting
on a minimum impact approaches to adventurous activities.
Several of our courses for young people have sessions dedicated
to litter picking in particularly overused areas.

The pressures facing mountains and other
areas of wilderness.
The implications of continuing increase in the levels of
participation in recreation are serious for the environment.
There is a very real danger that the most popular areas will
become so degraded that either the potential for enjoyment
will be severely reduced or owners / authorities will impose
controls on recreational activities.
Key components of the minimum impact approach.
- Park with consideration, never block gates or narrow
lanes.
- Walk on paths or boulders; resist the temptation to cut
corners.
- Avoid scree running.
- Use gates or stiles don’t climb over wall / fences.
- Take all litter home, do not bury it.
- Don’t build Cairns.
- Don’t use fires except in designated areas. It can
take thirty years for
- heather moorland to fully recover.
- Use public transport when ever possible.
