Orienteering and Map Reading

Orienteering is a sport where competitors navigate their way between control points marked on a specially drawn map. You can decide your own pace so it doesn't matter how young or old or fit you are. Not only is orienteering a fun and challenging outdoor activity, it also provides an excellent way for you to improve your map and navigation skills. This is because it involves constant interpretation of the map to the ground as well as taking and using compass bearings. Orienteering is therefore a perfect outdoor activity for schools as it can be used as an element in the National Curriculum for PE, Geography and Mathematics.

We can set up orienteering courses in wild areas of open countryside, and also in relatively urban areas, which makes orienteering an adventurous activity available to everyone, everywhere. Orienteering therefore also has an appeal to family groups because its structure allows parents and children to compete at their own level at the same event. For an even greater challenge, we can also offer night orienteering. |
